Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager
Spurs fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be real Tottenham supporters" by manager Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when Vicario gave away possession far beyond his area.
He came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the touchline.
However, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Moments later when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
One of those booing sessions really angered the manager.
"I heard a few of our fans apparently jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.
Former top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "totally avoidable".
"I do understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He's a great squad member, he's a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a error of my own, I accept accountability for that," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It's on the team to stay more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League goal of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
Ten moments passed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds after the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of additional time. Then it was all about trying to make the right contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager
While Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home woes.
The match was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come before the end of the year.
Just a single of those victories have come since Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated Frank.
"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.
"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a single story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have lost 4 straight home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on file in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile job at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
